What never leaves your device

Everything the checks produce. Audio from your microphone is measured for loudness inside the page and discarded frame by frame — there is no recorder and no buffer. Video from your camera is drawn into the page and discarded the same way; no still image is ever captured. Keystrokes on the keyboard tester are drawn on screen and forgotten. None of this is written to disk, and none of it is sent anywhere, because the code that would send it does not exist.

You can verify the visible part yourself: while the microphone or camera is open, your browser shows its recording indicator, and the moment you press stop it goes out. A page that kept the stream could not make that light go out.

What does leave your device

Three things, and no others.

1. Ordinary web requests. Loading any page here sends what loading any page sends: your network address, the address you asked for, and the browser’s own headers. Server logs keep these, as every web server does.
2. The latency check. It sends twenty requests for a one-byte file on this domain, because latency is a property of the path between you and a server and cannot be measured without using it. This is the only check that makes requests, and it says so on its own page.
3. Your message, if you use the contact form. The email address and text you type are sent to a mailbox a person reads. Nothing else from the page goes with it.

Visit statistics

This site uses Yandex Metrica to count visits, and the counter is configured with session recording (Webvisor) and click mapping switched on. In plain terms that means scrolling, pointer movement, clicks and changes to the page are sent to Yandex, and a visit can later be watched back like a video. We name it here rather than describing ourselves as “privacy friendly”, because a promise that hides its exceptions is not a promise.

What that recording cannot contain: your microphone audio, your camera video, and the contents of any media stream. Those never enter the page as data, so there is nothing for a recorder to capture. It does see text you type into the contact form, so send nothing there you would not put in an email.

Stored in your browser

One line for each check you complete: the verdict, a short headline, a detail line and a timestamp. It exists so the summary page can show your results together. It lives in local storage on this device, under this site’s name, and it is not readable by other sites. The button above erases it. A single cookie also records that you dismissed the notice at the bottom of the page, so it stops reappearing.

Children

The checks here are diagnostic tools and are not directed at children. No account exists, so no age is collected, and nothing personal is required to use any check.

Asking us

Since DeviceCheckLab holds no account and no test results, there is usually nothing to request or delete on our side. If you have written to us, ask and the correspondence will be removed. Write to info@devicechecklab.com.
